Dr. Christi Wengler

Welcome to Wellness Pediatric Dentistry, where I combine my passion for children’s health with advanced holistic approaches to create positive dental experiences that last a lifetime. As a board-certified pediatric dentist with a background in nutritional sciences, I believe in empowering families with choices and transparency in their child’s healthcare journey.

After serving our country as an Air Force dentist and training internationally in Germany, I founded San Antonio’s first holistic pediatric dental practice to fill a critical need in our community. My unique journey has equipped me with advanced skills in airway-focused orthodontics, tongue tie evaluations, and specialized care for children with autism and sensory processing differences.

Dr. Wengler's Vision

My vision for Wellness Pediatric Dentistry extends far beyond traditional dental care. Having witnessed the transformative power of holistic approaches during my four years practicing in Germany, I’m committed to bringing these advanced techniques to San Antonio families who deserve more choices in their children’s healthcare.

As a Diplomat of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and member of the International Academy of Biological Dentistry and Medicine, I believe every parent has the right to understand exactly what materials and methods are being used in their child’s treatment. My background in nutritional sciences allows me to address the crucial connection between diet, oral health, and overall wellness.

Most jaw growth occurs before age six, which is why I’m passionate about early intervention through airway-focused orthodontics and comprehensive evaluations. I conduct pediatric sleep questionnaires for all children five and older because I understand how oral health impacts breathing, development, and sleep quality.

My experience as a Certified Lactation Counselor helps me connect with breastfeeding mothers and understand the early oral development that shapes a child’s future health. Whether your child needs fluoride-free alternatives, biocompatible materials, or gentle care for sensory processing differences, I’m here to create calm, nurturing experiences that build positive relationships with dental care.

FAQ

What makes holistic pediatric dentistry different from traditional dental care?

Holistic pediatric dentistry focuses on the whole child, considering how oral health connects to overall wellness, sleep, breathing, and development. We offer fluoride-free alternatives, biocompatible materials, and minimally invasive treatments while providing complete transparency about all materials and methods used in your child’s care.

Do you accept dental insurance if you're out-of-network?

While we operate as an out-of-network practice to ensure the highest quality holistic materials and personalized care, we do accept assignment of benefits. We also offer membership plans and financing options through Cherry and CareCredit to make comprehensive care accessible to families.

How do you help children with special needs feel comfortable?

Our practice features quiet, private treatment rooms specifically designed for children with autism and sensory processing differences. We take extra time to explain procedures, create calm environments, and work at each child’s pace to ensure positive experiences that build confidence over time.

What is airway-focused orthodontics, and why is it important?

Airway-focused orthodontics evaluates how your child’s jaw development affects their breathing and sleep quality. Since most jaw growth happens before age six, early intervention with palate expansion and Invisalign First can optimize development and prevent future breathing issues, sleep problems, and the need for more complex treatment later.

What should I expect during my child's first visit?

Your child’s first visit includes a comprehensive evaluation with our pediatric sleep questionnaire for children five and older, a gentle examination in our kid-friendly environment, and a thorough discussion of all findings and treatment options. We focus on education, prevention, and creating positive experiences that set the foundation for lifelong oral health.

Why do you require parents to understand treatment materials and methods?

As a parent myself and healthcare provider with a nutritional sciences background, I believe families deserve complete transparency about what goes into their child’s body. This empowers you to make informed decisions that align with your family’s values and health goals while building trust through honest communication.
