Parents searching for a pediatric dentist in Castle Hills are looking for more than a cleaning and a sticker. They want a provider who asks about their child’s sleep, their diet, the way they breathe at night, and the materials that go in their mouth. That kind of care is rare, but it’s exactly what families in Castle Hills and across San Antonio deserve.

Wellness Pediatric Dentistry & Airway is located right here in Castle Hills, and we are proud to be San Antonio’s first holistic pediatric dental practice. Dr. Christi Wengler is a Board Certified Diplomate and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and she brings credentials that set her apart from any other pediatric provider in the area, including a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences, Certified Lactation Counselor training, advanced airway-focused education through Airway Health Solutions, and 11 years of service in the United States Air Force.

What Makes Holistic Pediatric Dentistry Different?

Conventional dentistry treats teeth. Holistic pediatric dentistry treats the child. At Wellness Pediatric Dentistry & Airway, we consider how your child’s oral health connects to their breathing, their sleep, their nutrition, and their overall development. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, dental decay affects more than 40% of children ages 2 to 19, yet much of it is preventable with the right early interventions and education.

We begin by assessing diet, breathing patterns, and jaw development at every visit so we can catch concerns early, before they become bigger problems. Because most jaw growth happens before age six, early evaluation can make a meaningful difference in your child’s long-term health. This is the window where we can do the most good, and we are here to help your family take full advantage of it.

Transparent Care, Every Step of the Way

One of the values that guides everything we do is the belief that parents deserve to know exactly what goes into their child’s body. We use fluoride-free products whenever possible, offer biocompatible materials for restorations, and walk through every treatment option with clear explanations before anything is recommended. We use PSP plates rather than traditional sensors for X-rays, and we choose minimally invasive techniques that preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible.

Our holistic dentistry approach also includes nitrous oxide as an anxiolytic option for children who need additional support during treatment. Every decision we make is guided by a commitment to supporting your child’s natural development and long-term wellness. We are not a one-size-fits-all practice, and we never will be.

Airway Health and Early Orthodontics

Oral health and airway health are deeply connected. Mouth breathing, disrupted sleep, difficulty focusing, and behavioral challenges can all have roots in dental development. Dr. Wengler integrates airway-focused assessments into routine visits, offering sleep questionnaires for children ages four and older and evaluating jaw growth as part of comprehensive care.

Our airway orthodontics services address developmental concerns during the years that matter most, using palate expanders, myofunctional appliances, and Invisalign Teen options when appropriate. These approaches work with your child’s natural growth patterns rather than against them. Families interested in lip and tongue tie evaluations will find that we approach these concerns with the same careful, whole-child perspective.

Nutritional Counseling as Part of Dental Care

Dr. Wengler’s background in Nutritional Sciences shapes the way we approach preventive care. Diet plays a direct role in cavity risk, enamel strength, and jaw development, and we incorporate dental nutritional counseling into our care model in a way that is practical and family-friendly. We talk about food choices, not just brushing habits, because oral health begins at the table.

A Practice Built on Transparency and Parent Empowerment

One of the core values that guides our care is the belief that parents deserve full transparency about what goes into their child's body. We use fluoride-free products whenever possible, offer biocompatible materials for restorations, and present all treatment options with clear explanations so you can make informed decisions for your family. We never take a one-size-fits-all approach as we understand that every child and every family is unique.

Our holistic dentistry method includes the use of PSP plates rather than traditional sensors for X-rays, and we prioritize minimally invasive techniques that preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible. We also offer silver diamine fluoride as an alternative cavity-management tool and use nitrous oxide as an anxiolytic option for children who need additional support during treatment. Every choice we make in the treatment room is guided by a commitment to supporting your child's natural development and long-term wellness.

Airway-Focused Care for Growing Children

Oral health and airway health are deeply connected, and many childhood concerns, such as mouth breathing, disrupted sleep, and behavioral challenges, can have roots in dental development. Dr. Wengler integrates airway-focused assessments into our care model, using sleep questionnaires for children ages four and older and evaluating jaw development as part of routine visits. Identifying these patterns early gives families a real opportunity to address the root cause rather than simply managing symptoms.

Our airway orthodontics services are designed to address developmental concerns early, using palate expanders, myofunctional appliances, and Invisalign Teen options when appropriate. These treatments work with your child's natural growth patterns to encourage proper breathing and facial development over time.

Specialized Care for Children with Unique Needs

We understand that not all children have the same experience at the dentist, and we've designed our practice with that as part of our focus. Our special needs dentistry services are available for children with autism, sensory processing disorders, and other conditions that require a more thoughtful, individualized approach to care. Our private, quiet treatment rooms help minimize sensory overload, and our team moves at each child's pace to ensure they feel safe and comfortable throughout every visit.

For children who need extra support to relax during treatment, we also offer pediatric sedation dentistry, including nitrous oxide and additional sedation options tailored to each child's age and needs. For families who are curious about a second opinion on a previous treatment recommendation, we openly welcome those conversations. We believe that parents should feel confident and fully informed in order to make the best decisions for their children. Our team is always happy to take the time to review your child's history and offer our perspective.
